This is the reason I love to travel . . .for the moments when you visit a place having no expectation of what you'll see and end up leaving completley insipred. The Seoul Lantern Festival was one of those places for me.

I have to say that Seoul is one of the great cities of the world, also something I didn't expect. It's beautiful, new, clean, trendy and overflowing with culture. The Lantern Festival is an example of all those things. Currently in its 4th year, the festival is held on the Cheonggyecheon stream. The stream was once covered by roads but thanks to a $900 million dollar urban renewal project, it's be transformed into a beautiful public area to be enjoyed by all.
Below: This is what the Cheonggyecheon stream looks like during a normal evening. Amazing!
The festival itself is a tribute to Seoul's 2000 year old history. On display are over a hunderd-thousand lanterns crafted by both local and international artists. It runs for about 3 weeks every November.
